I am a big believer in building a community that supports new mothers. For thousands of years, women have been supporting other women in childbirth. Beginning in the 1930's and then more prominently in the 1950's , it became strange to ask another mother to assist you in your birth story. I truly believe in the model of supportive care and that the greatest way to have a peaceful birthing story is to hire a doula.
I recently read a story about a beekeeper that found a bee drowning in honey. The beekeeper pulled out the bee and went about his work. Later he went back and checked on the bee, and found that the sister bees had swarmed around her and cleaned her up until she could fly again. As women and sisters, I believe we are meant to take care of each other in the sticky parts of life. I want to create a network of mothers that love and take care of each other. My doula work is all about creating that community support. I am confident I can find a way to serve you by offering birth education, birth support and my Doula experience to help you prepare for your birth. I bring my support and my love into your home and your birth space. So whether I am your doula, or I help you find the one that aligns with you, please reach out and ask.
I graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Exercise Science. It was there I learned about my love for health, physiology, and the process of birth. I actively work to further my education, knowledge and skillset on a regular basis. I am passionate about not just birth work, but the over arching health of women and have held classes to teach girls to love their bodies as they progress in development.
I am a flexible thinker and approach problems from a point of curiosity. I look for points of empathy to advocate for mothers in the birth space. I am highly experienced in supporting emotional needs and my strengths are offering physical and spiritual guidance. My education has taught me the specifics of how the body moves, along with the muscles and bones that work together to guide the baby down and out. I've set myself apart in doula work and find great joy including birth education in every interaction that I have with my client--in fact I carry a plastic uterus in my purse just in case the conversation arises. :)
For me, birth work isn't just a job, it's a method and philosophy to change the damaging culture that surround not just birth, but girls and women, one family at a time. My goal is to change the world: one birth at a time, one girl at a time.
